The Story of an Innocent Boy
‘Come on sis, just try this out. You will surprise yourself just how your face would transform!’
Whoaah, that one word is enough to turn me off.
What do you mean ‘transformed’? Implying that my God given face is not good enough, eh? My inner voice was screaming and dying to get out, to be heard. But, I decided it’s not worth it. So, I looked at her, smiled and walked away.
As I walked, I couldn’t stop thinking about the line used by that salesperson. As funny as it sounded, I am not totally amused by it.
Astaghfirullaah. Don’t they have a better marketing line to say? Who trained this salesperson? Who are the consultants responsible for this company’s sales kit? They ought to ask for a refund!
Seriously…
If only human knew this wonderful verse of Our Lord that tells us how beautiful each and everyone of us are…
It is Allah Who has made for you the earth as a resting place, and the sky as a canopy, and has given you shape- and made your shapes beautiful,- and has provided for you Sustenance, of things pure and good;- such is Allah your Lord. So Glory to Allah, the Lord of the Worlds! [ The Believer 40 : 64]
SubhanAllaah. See? Allaah has said that He has made us all beautiful. Regardless of what shape we have – pear or apple, plump or skinny, tall or short, whether we are a M,Y,S, H, A, P or E- we are all beautiful. Be thankful for it. Feel blessed for such gift, a gift from Allaah. Alhamdulillaah.
Indeed, Glory is all for Him.
But, of course, if we originally were born say, petite and then we ‘accidentally’ over the years grow sideways, then, I think it is just right if we want to start working out to get back in shape. This is not what I am referring too.
I am referring to the people who wanted to make us feel that the beauty that Allaah, our Lord has given us is not enough. We are not attractive enough. Not stunning enough. Not pretty enough.
So, the remedy?
A tray of colorful paints to be applied on our ‘incomplete’ beauty. Yes, this is the one I am referring to.
Again, a disclaimer here sisters- if you decide to look beautiful for the deserving ones, by all means sisters, go ahead!
I remembered a quote by Charles Revson, Chairman of Revlon who said…
In the factory we make cosmetics; in the store we sell hope.
Aha! At last, the truth came out.
They are selling hope. Hope to the poor women’s souls. Hope of women who perhaps wanted to be as stunning as the Hollywood movie stars.
But, then again, have we actually seen them minus the make up? Open up any tabloid magazine and you are bound to find a picture of them in two versions - ‘before’ and ‘after’ or ‘with’ and ‘without’.
Yup, surprised! They actually look like us!
The fact of the matter is pretty simple. Allaah, our Lord, has clearly said that it is not our looks that counts, but what is in our hearts.
Allah does not look at your bodies or your forms, or your deeds, but He looks at your hearts.” (Al-Bukhari and Muslim )
Yes, my brother and sisters. Our hearts…
Let me tell you a story about this wonderfully innocent boy with his mummy.
Little Johnny watched, fascinated, as his mother smoothed cold cream on her face.
“Why do you do that, mommy?” he asked.
“To make myself beautiful,” she replied as she began to remove the cream with a tissue.
“What’s the matter,” asked little Johnny. “Giving up?”
Oppss…
Anyone wants to explain the concept to him?
